Bondi Gateway
For Waverley Council Year 2023
My mural titled Bondi Gateway was painted from June 12th-18th 2023 and will be available for viewing at the Bondi Promenade for a limited time only. The project is a part of the Bondi Beach Sea Wall, a community arts program coordinated by the Waverley Council. The wall stretches across the length of world famous Bondi Beach and features a variety of different murals painted by local artists.

Concept
I wanted to create a mural at Bondi Beach because the energy of the space holds the power to immerse people in the feeling of abundant serenity and bring out the inner imaginative child within everyone. The original idea is based on my oil painting ‘Journey to the Tamarama Entrance’ which featured a view of the ocean horizon from the perspective of the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk. From this viewpoint, the onlooker sees a glowing door at the edge of the horizon during a summer sunrise. The gateway door radiates a soft and comforting warm light that pulls you in. Surrounding you are glowing stars, representing the essence of a soul, that gently dance through the air. The souls float gracefully towards the gateway, as if they are savouring their final moments on Earth before entering another realm. Much of my art explores the idea of a limbo land between life and death and this one embodies this concept precisely.
